New Principal
25 Mar 2022
From Richard Costi - Education Director
It is with great delight to announce that Mr Rob Warncken has won the Coromandel Valley Primary School Principal position for the next 5 years and 3 terms.
Rob is currently the Deputy Principal at Craigburn Primary School. While every school is unique there are some real similarities between the two schools and in fact, the communities intersect to some degree.
Rob is also known to Coromandel Valley as he was Assistant Principal from 2008 until 2014 under Chris Bayly. Since that time he has been Deputy and Assistant Principal at Craigburn PS. This experience gives Rob a really strong background and he is well and truly ready to take up a Principalship.
Further to that, it was the Coromandel Valley Principal position that would be his first choice, so we know he will be fully committed to the school and community. Rob has an excellent record in leading literacy, inquiry, improvement planning, ICT and working the community. Rob is deeply committed to continue the excellent work of the team at Coromandel Valley and the key directions of IB and Cultures of Thinking. Rob will add to the excellent practice in place.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Mike Shaw as Acting principal in term 1 together with Deputy Principal Kat Morgan. Mike and Kat have steered a steady ship and continued the very good work in what has been a tumultuous term with all the COVID twists and turns. I also take one last opportunity to thank Liz Pelling for her wonderful leadership over the years and she is continuing similar work at Colonel Light Gardens.
So thanks to Mike, Kat, Liz and welcome Rob.
Thanks also to Sam Neville GC chair, and Juli Bryan teacher, who were part of the selection process.
COVID Update
23 Feb 2022
From the start of week 5 (28 February) until the end of Week 8 (25 March) the following can resume:
In schools
- Day excursions and incursions (held outdoors where possible). Please note that some excursion venues may have vaccination requirements.
- Interschool sporting competitions.
- Extra-curricular activities at the school, including choirs, band practice, instrumental lessons attended by a non-school employed music teacher.
- Assemblies that are held outdoors.
- Prospective parent tours held in a COVID safe manner (eg attendees wearing masks when indoors, with social distancing).
- Playgroups, OSHC excursions and incursions (held outdoors where possible).
Visitors in schools and OSHC can include:
- attending the school for specific events held outdoors (eg: spectators attending outdoor sporting games)
- volunteers required by the school
- instrumental music teachers
All adult visitors must wear a face mask when indoors, practise physical distancing, and not attend the site if they are unwell. Visitors attending indoor venues and outside specific events to continue to be minimised.
COVID-19 settings that remain in place:
- Face masks continue to be required (when indoors) for:
- all adults, except when it impedes ability to teach
- Face masks are strongly encouraged for students in years 3 to 6 (when indoors).
- Current testing, isolating and quarantine remains unchanged, including classroom contacts.
- Non-SACE related overnight camps continue to be postponed.
Beginning of face to face learning
13 Feb 2022
Face-to-face learning will resume for all year levels tomorrow, from Monday 14 February as planned. Thank you very much for your support during this time. We are excited to welcome your children back to school tomorrow.
Thank you to our entire school community for your patience, resilience and support in what has been an incredibly challenging start of the school year. Collaboration between parents / caregivers and staff around remote learning for years 2-6 has been exceptional.
The professionalism of our teachers and SSOs cannot be understated. Their commitment has been duly acknowledged by many community members. To those families that have gone out of their way to show their appreciation to school staff, we say thank you.
As we are still minimising people on site, we ask that all visitors including families:
- Please drop and collect your child at one of the gates if you can.
- If you do need to bring your child on site, maintain the appropriate physical distance from other adults and please don’t enter learning areas.
- For adults who need to come onto school grounds, please wear a mask, complete the COVID check-in and present to the front office.
- Children should stay home if unwell, and until symptoms have cleared. If children present unwell at school, parent / carers will be contacted to collect them.
For Year 3-6 students, mask wearing is recommended. Your child might have questions about wearing masks. It’s important we continue to follow SA Health advice and your continued cooperation is greatly appreciated as we help students and staff with this necessary change.
Online learning resources
To reiterate, teachers are not expected to deliver a face-to-face learning program and provide remote learning if your child tests positive to COVID-19 or is required to isolate due to being a close contact outside of school.
In this case we encourage you to use the learning at home lessons on Our Learning SA. Reception to year 6 students can access a minimum of 3 Learning at home lessons online each day. Lessons are delivered via video or Microsoft PowerPoint and can be accessed on any device.
Parent ICT helpline
The parent ICT helpline will continue to be available to assist parents and carers if students are accessing the learning resources on Our Learning SA (due to testing positive to COVID-19 or being a close contact outside of school). Parents can call 1800 271 211.
Assembly
Our first Assembly for the year will be coming from 1C on Monday at 10:20am.
